In case you have not heard yet, Raymarine offered a software update for Classic E series. It also includes version 4.11 for the DSM 30 and 300.I hope the link stuck as I cannot see the bottom of the page when I type as the page keeps jumping up to the top. You must register your products first before it will let you down load. You do not need any previous software upgrades to load this software is it includes all past upgrades. Also you can down load a planning version of Raymarine's RayTech software and veiw your Navionics charts on your computer but you will have to buy a Navionics Card Reader to do so.

You can also down load and veiw nautical charts from NOAA also. You can place routes and waypoints and transfer them to your unit. Also for the guys who have Garmin 4xx and 5xx series plotters version 5.0 is available as a couple of weeks ago. This is a support email from Raymarine. We run a couple of laptops on board. The older one which runs on Windows XP is the boat computer and interfaces with our E120 Raymarine Chartplotter using RayTech RNS 6.1 – not only is this set up great for planning, but gives us effectively a 2nd plotter down below (at least, when we have spare power if the solar panels or wind generators are working well). The newer laptop runs off the abomination of Windows Vista. While primarily personal use, it was still going to be the back-up Nav Computer.BUT, while we can still run RNS 6.1 on it, it is only in planning mode –you cannot get a direct interface with the plotter with Vista - despite earlier assurances way back from Raymarine that RNS 6.1 would be fully Vista compatible. We got around that by setting up dual Operating Systems - XP and Vista – on the laptop. The old laptop is sadly coming to the end of the road – too much rust on the casing, too many things need replacing. So sometime over the next couple of months, we’ll bite the bullet and buy a new one.Whatever we get will have Windows 7.Dows anyone know if RNS 6.1 is Windows 7 compatible?

Is Raymarine thinking of a RNS 6.2 that will be? Or should I just plan on setting up a dual OS again? I have RNS6.1 and the latest firmware on an earlier model E120. Everything does actually work despite Raymarine saying it won't. What Raymarine won't do, is support running with Vista; so, you do it at your own risk. The only issue I have is that the radar overlay is a light blue colour instead of the dark purple colour that it should be and the colour changing options don't work correctly. As an aside, it also works over a wireless connection, except the DSM sonar which only works over a hard-wired (CAT5) connection. Needless to say, I don't use a Raymarine switch; just my wireless ADSL router with built-in 4-port switch.
